Mixed reactions trail men marrying older women

NAN Some Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions to the idea of men marrying women that were older than them. Over the years in Africa, women were usually advised to marry men who were older, more educated, had better jobs and would have made enough money to cater for them. Some respondents obliged to the norm and told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that modernity and other factors had redefined their choices of suitable mates. They also said that emotional maturity was a core virtue needed to sustain a relationship and older women possessed it. A lawyer, Godfrey Chukukere, told NAN that men sustaining relationships with women younger than them tend to be more difficult since such women were fond of laying emphases on trivial issues. He said that a man marrying an older woman, on the average, meant marrying an older and mature person. “Having a relationship with an older woman is simply the best thing that a younger, vibrant and ambitious man should ...

Nigeria: Buhari to Osinbajo: Your position as VP “threatened’’ my women

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday alerted Vice President (VP) Yemi Osinbajo that his position as VP was being “threatened’’ by Nigerian women in politics. The president stated this while reacting to a request by Nigerian women who asked for the slot of Vice President of Nigeria in subsequent elections in the country. The women under the auspices of the Nigerian Female Parliamentarians made the request when they paid a courtesy call on Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The chairperson of organisation, Mrs Elizabeth Ativie, who spoke on behalf the delegation, lamented that Nigerian women were being marginalised by their male counterparts in the nation’s body politics. “Since 1999 we only have one principal officer each in the Senate and the House of Representatives. “And in the State Houses of Assembly we have only just five per cent, women are five per cent of the total population of elected members of the State Houses of Assembly and we...

Nigeria: Muhammadu Buhari are already in panic.

Enugu — The Biafra Zionists Federation (BZF) has said the Federal Government was trying to intimidate its members from carrying out their plans to declare Biafra Republic on May 30 by deploying fighter jets in the zone. It declared that no amount of fighter jets deployed against the zone would stop the group from announcing Biafra and occupying the Enugu State Government House, which it said, was the designated headquarters of Biafra on May 30. The Guardian learnt that air surveillance by the joint patrol of Army and Police had increased in the zone since Monday; fuelling fears of possible clashes in the event of security breaches. BZF leader, Mazi Benjamin Onwuka, told journalists in Enugu that the group was prepared to face any kind of security apparatuses that may be deployed to frustrate the exercise. He called on Biafrans to assemble at the Enugu Government House on May 30, asking Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to steer clear of controversy "by vacating office before that date...

Nnamdi Kanu and Nigerian Army: Judicial lessons from America, By Russel Andrew Crowe.

Since his arrest by the Nigerian government in 2016, the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the neo-Biafran movement, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has generated a considerable amount of interest among American watchers of the Nigerian story. I have, in the recent past, written a few essays on issues arising from the matter of Nigeria and Biafra; and just recently, a new and crucial issue caught my attention. That is: the novel legal dilemma posed by the Nigerian Army to Mr Kanu's adjourned criminal trial. This directly arose from the hostile operations the Nigerian Army had conducted against Kanu, back in September 2017. From my straw research of the nuances of Nigerian jurisprudence, there's no known case that has squarely dealt with the situation the army forced on the Nigeria judiciary in this instance. Though there are legions of rulings by the Nigerian Supreme Court on the tenor of the ‘due process’ and ‘fair trial’ cannons of the Nigerian Constitution,...

Dr. Bukola Saraki, has refused to obey.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), advised Saraki to swear . By Desmond Orjiakor It is worrisome that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has refused to obey a court order asking him to swear in the bonafide candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who won the 2015 Akwa Ibom North East senatorial election. This is in total disregard of all laid down procedures. A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, had removed Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan from the National Assembly, having found out that Akpan was not the valid and bonafide candidate of the PDP for the Akwa Ibom North East senatorial poll. In a judgement on a pre-election dispute between a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bassey Etim and Mr. Akpan, over who between them was the authentic candidate of the PDP in the election, the court specifically held that Akpan had wrongly and illegally represented the Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District ...

We will neither beg the US for dialogue, if they do not want to sit together with us, North Korea Vice

China, Germany want dialogue with North Korea to continue NAN China and Germany want dialogue with North Korea to continue, Chinese Premier, Li Keqiang and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel have said in Beijing. The US and North Korea have each said they could call off a historic summit between their leaders, planned for June, but Keqiang and Merkel appealed to them to continue talks. Merkel said she hoped for denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula and that she had seen “very hopeful things recently.” Keqiang said it was important to resolve the issues through peaceful dialogue. The US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would know next week whether his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un would take place on June 12 in Singapore as scheduled, casting further doubt on plans for the unprecedented meeting. White House aides are preparing to travel to Singapore this weekend for a crucial meeting with North Korean officials to discuss the agenda and logis...

North Korea dismantles nuclear test site ahead of US summit

North Korea has dismantled its nuclear test site, media invited to attend the ceremony said Thursday, in a carefully choreographed move portrayed by the isolated regime as a goodwill gesture ahead of a potential summit next month with the US. Pyongyang announced its plan to “completely” dismantle the Punggye-ri facility in the country’s northeast, inviting some foreign journalists to witness the destruction. Reporters at the scene described a series of explosions throughout the day, three of them in entry tunnels to the underground facility, followed by explosions that demolished a nearby barracks and other structures. “There was a huge explosion, you could feel it. Dust came at you, the heat came at you. It was extremely loud,” Tom Cheshire, a journalist for Sky News who was among those invited to attend the ceremony, wrote on the British broadcaster’s website. The Punggye-ri test facility is buried inside a mountain in North Hamgyong province, n...

Chief of Staff of the Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) and Leader of Displaced Bakassi Youths, Linus Essien, has disclosed that the people of Bakassi will partake in observing 30th May to celebrate Biafra Day. Essien said that the BNYL has gone wide in sensitising the people within the Bakassi Peninsula especially areas ceded to Cameroon in line with the BNYL programs. “We are not violent and we have not seen reasons to be,” he said, urging the people of Bakassi to emulate the Igbo that have proved to be tired of Nigeria. “Our people have suffered under the Nigeria government; we are no longer regarded as part of Nigeria and in Cameroon, we are not welcomed. Bakassi lies in the Bight of Biafra, and I am declaring publicly that we are Biafrans by nature,” he declared. He disclosed how the security agencies intimidated members of the group, adding: “We run our organisation’s administration in Bakassi, and we have come under intimidation by the Nig...

Out in Aso Rock” – Hameed Ali Tells Buhari

The Chairman of Buhari Support Organisation and Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has no reason to be in Aso Rock beyond the age of 70 but for his love for country. Ali said this when he led the organisation to meet the president at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday. He said, “I have said it and I will repeat it here, Mr. President, with all due respect, at 70 plus, with a good retirement benefit and with your house in Daura, if I were you, I will see no reason to be in this arena. “But why are you here? It is because you love this great country. You left your comfort to serve Nigeria and that is why for those of us who love you for who you are, said we must follow you and ensure that your second term in this country becomes a reality.” He said Buhari’s three years in office have brought development to the country, therefore he must win reelection in 2018. “Today ...

I prefer to die than to see Buhari ruin Nigeria – Obasanjo

It has been gathered that Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo once stated that he preferred to be jailed by President Buhari than to let Former President, Goodluck Jonathan continue as President of Nigeria. In his book, ‘My Watch’, Page 96, Obasanjo wrote; “…the Buhari I know relieves my hope for a true transformation Nigeria requires at this moment. Even, I prefer him to jail me than Jonathan to return to destroy this nation…” This development seems ironic as President Buhari and Obasanjo have been locked in a war of words recently with President Buhari questioning Obasanjo on how he managed $16 billion allocated for power projects in the country during his regime. Obasanjo fired back asking the president to read his book for the answer, adding that if he couldn’t read it, he could ask his aides to read it for him. Obasanjo also added that he was not afraid of a probe.

Buhari Is An Ungrateful and foolish For Saying He Is Paying OBJ’s Depts – Reno Omokri

The face-off between Nigeria’s incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari and former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is gathering momentum day after day as both leaders continues to slam each other back and forth. Recently, President Buhari inquired from the former president “where the power is” after spending $16b on a power project that didn’t yield any dividends for Nigeria and rather the power capacity dropped further. Chief Obasanjo fired back at him and said he is ignorant. Read more on that here. However, former presidential aide of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri have also fired back at President Buhari, claiming he is an ungrateful ignoramus and pointed out that the president have borrowed more in 3 years than the PDP borrowed in their entire 16 years of leadership. THE UNTOLD STORY ABOUT OUR LEADER, MAZI NNAMDI KANU

THE UNTOLD STORY ABOUT OUR LEADER, MAZI NNAMDI KANU This is one story no one else has told. I was involved. Tari Nemi, Legborsi Emmanuel, and Amarachi were the ones with me somewhere in Port Harcourt. We were all waiting for our leader to confirm to us that he had left Isiama for Port Harcourt. What was the occasion? We had finalised everything that was needed for Prince Kanu to meet with all the Ogoni stakeholders. As a matter of fact, the stakeholders were eager to host their son from Ala-Igbo. They had readied their minds to have Prince Kanu stand where both Birabi and Saro-Wiwa stood to address Ogoni people. In a shocking twist of event, information got to us that the entourage from Isiama had been intercepted by men of the Nigerian Army. It was Somto Okonkwo that confirmed that they were attacked and our leader was shot at by the armed soldiers. That attack forced our leader to beat a retreat, thereby scuttling the meeting with Ogoni stakeholders. My team had visited our leade...
