The 41-year-old insurance agent allowed a key Argentina player Javier Mascherano to remain on the Krestovsky Stadium turf despite blood pouring down his face and the Nigerian players complaining. Fifa Rules state that any player bleeding from a wound must leave the field of play and he may not return until the referee is satisfied that the bleeding has stopped, and a player is not permitted to wear clothing with blood on it. Argentina went through to the knockout stages following their 2-1 win over Nigeria; Lionel Messi, Victor Moses and Marcos Rojo scored for their respective teams. The US has given up on the overthrow of Assad in Syria

When Washington ‘understands the difficult conditions’ its militia allies are facing and says it ‘advises’ the Russians and Syrians not to violate a ceasefire – which was Moscow’s idea in the first place – you know that the Americans are pulling the carpet from beneath another set of allies. It will be called the great betrayal. And it was a long time coming. But the grim message from Washington to the anti-Assad fighters of southern Syria – that they could expect no help from the West in their further struggle against Assad’s regime or the Russians – will one day figure in the history books. It’s a turning point in the Syria war, a shameful betrayal if you happen to belong to the wreckage of the “Free Syrian Army” and its acolytes around the city of Deraa, and a further victory for the Assad regime in its ambition to retake all of rebel Syria. Already Russian missiles and Syrian bombs are embracing the cou...

Calls for restructuring selfish – Buhari

As Urhobo leaders give conditions to support his 2nd term bid By Chesa Chesa President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday declared that calls for the restructuring of the country were propelled more by selfish than national interests. He also asserted that the views so far expressed on the issue were largely uncoordinated, and expressed doubts if they aligned with the letters of the Nigerian Constitution. Buhari bared his mind at Aso Rock Presidential Villa when he received a delegation of Urhobo traditional rulers, executive members of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) and Urhobo members in the All Progressives Congress (APC), who paid him a courtesy visit. He told the delegation that he was not excited by such calls, insisting that “every person or every group asking for restructuring have their own agenda and I hope it can be accommodated by the constitution we are currently running on”. Stressing that he was not excited by such calls, the president however, assured the group...

Russian jets make first foray into south-west Syria.

The US has warned Syrian rebels in the south-west of the country they should not expect military support to help them resist a major government offensive. The message from Washington comes as Russian jets struck an opposition-held town on Sunday in the first air cover provided by Moscow to an expanding Syrian army offensive in the strategic area bordering Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The US message sent to heads of the Free Syrian Army said Washington wanted to make clear that “you should not base your decisions on the assumption or expectation of a military intervention by us”. The Syrian army began ramping up its assault last week in order to recapture the area. Washington had warned the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, and his Russian allies that violations of a “de-escalation” zone agreed by the US and Russia last year would have “serious repercussions” and pledged “firm and appropriate measures”. The US ambass...

Nothing Can Stop Biafra Referendum.

Chancellor of Eastern Mandate Union (EMU), Dr. Arthur Nwankwo, has declared that no amount of force could suppress the Biafra spirit and the urge for self-determination by people of the South East of Nigeria. This is as Nwanwko lamented that the conditions that instigated the civil war between 1967 and 1970 are still as virulent as ever. These are some of the issues contained in his just released book, entitled: “Nigeria and her Path to Doom.” “It is the inability of the Nigerian state to come to a round table to renegotiate the basis for the existence of the country that has given birth to renewed agitations for self-determination. “It is in this context that the Biafran agitation should be located. The Biafran agitation is a product of the failed state that Nigerian has become. “Biafra has become a monumental phenomenon that cannot be silenced by force or ‘crushed’. “It is a constant reminder to the Nigerian state that all is not well with the structural configuration of the c...

A university lecturer, Prof. Hope Eghagha, warned on Wednesday in Lagos that Nigeria should avoid tendencies that would escalate to another war after the bitter experience of the Biafra civil war. Eghagha made the plea while reviewing a book, “The Nigerian Civil War, 50 Years After… Reflections of A Younger Generation’’ during the launch of the book. He told Nigerians to shun propaganda and hate speeches, to prevent a re-occurrence of the events that led to the war in 1967. Analysts have often described the Biafra civil war as the deadliest of its type in Africa, having taken the lives of more than two million people. Citing the Rwandan genocide, Eghagha, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, said: “Propaganda breeds hate, the civil war was not a pleasant experience as codes of interpersonal behaviour were suspended. “Anyone who has gone through a war cannot hope for another, a child that goes through a war loses his childhood. “We shoul...

Adult-film actress Stephanie Clifford will have to wait. U.S. District Judge S. James Otero in Los Angeles said Tuesday the request by Clifford, who goes by the stage name Stormy Daniels, didn’t overcome the seriousness of the criminal investigation into Trump’s longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, who got a 90-day hold placed on the suit after pleading his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Delivering the First Distinguished Public Lecture of Paul University, Awka, Anambra state with the title: The Constitution, Federal Structure and Governance Challenges in Nigeria, Dr Amadi noted that Nigeria was today at a very difficult time and witnessing the most severe crisis of multidimensional nature. He said, “Terrorism has made life not worth living. Many could argue that there seems to be no difference anymore between living in Nigeria today and living in Afghanistan as bombs rip through parks and bus-stops, markets and churches and mosques, and kill hundreds. Nigerians believe that their country is much more corrupt than the Transparency International Inde...

Damascus condemns Turkish patrols around Syria’s Manbij

Syria’s foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned Turkish military patrols around the northern city of Manbij, launched the previous day under a deal with the United States. Manbij is held by a US-backed alliance dominated by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), but Ankara considers them “terrorists” and has threatened to attack the city. In a first step on Monday, Turkish armoured vehicles began patrolling around Manbij, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency. Ankara has said its forces would eventually move into the city itself. The Turkish patrols are part of a deal to reduce tensions around Manbij, where US troops are also present, but Syria’s government sees them as an invasion. “Syria strongly condemns and absolutely rejects the incursion of Turkish and American forces into the area of Manbij city,” said a foreign ministry source, quoted by state news agency SANA. We recognise that an error has been committed. We will no longer tolerate such perversion of justice. This honour is for the grievous injustice done to the country. 7 Foods That Damage The Liver Which bad for Your Health– A Must Read For All

Before discussing which foods can damage the liver, it’s important to know what it actually does. The most well-known functions of the liver are to detoxify and flush out waste from your body. It “cleanses” the blood that passes through your body in order to separate what you ingest into useful nutrients and waste. It also turns excess sugars into glycogen that can be stored in the body and influences the regulation of amino acids in the bloods. On top of that, it flushes out harmful bacteria and therefore fights infection. The liver is a very busy organ, performing up to 500 functions in order to keep you in good health. When your liver starts failing, you can expect to experience fatigue, diarrhea, nausea and a poor appetite. If you’re not treated, symptoms can advance and cause mental confusion, abdominal swelling and bleeding. The worst case scenario is to either fall into a coma or even die. Sugar Too much sugar isn’t just bad for your teeth. It ca...
