Breaking News: IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu is missing.

Emmanuel, younger brother of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), has asked the army to produce the corpse of the Biafra agitator if he has been killed. Kanu and his parents have not been seen in public since the military raided their Afarakwu residence in Abia state on September 14. Speaking on behalf of the family on Tuesday, Emmanuel, Kanu’s younger brother, said he strongly believed his brother fell into the hands of troops. “It is either they (soldiers) captured him or killed him when they attacked our house. If they captured him, they should release him to the police, and if they have killed him, they should produce the corpse because he was last seen moments before the raid,” he said. However, the army has denied keeping Kanu in its custody. A responder to the call put through to one of the telephone lines which Operation Python Dance released to the public dismissed the notion of Kanu being held. “Kanu is not in our custod...

NIGERIA IS ALREADY BURNING

By Okoye Chinekwu Paul “If I’m re-arrested, this country will burn, I assure you”. That was Nnamdi Kanu’s statement during an exclusive interview with Okey Sampson of The sun newspaper, published on Sept 2, 2017. I have always had a soft spot for Biafra and what it stands for. Having learnt all about the Nigerian civil war (1967-1970) while growing up from a father whose love for Biafra knows no bound. He was and is still very much Biafra centric. And since History as a subject was not in our curriculum, I simply grew with a single story of the events surrounding the events of 1967-1970. I was made to believe that the rest of Nigeria ganged up against my people and nearly sent them into extinction. That was after a massive pogrom was carried out against us. I was taught that we are being marginalized and hated by all, except those of our kind. I can still remember how enraged I usually was when I was told tales of how Nigerian troops invaded Biafra land and t...

The Next Nnamdi Kanu

Azuka Jebose explains that Nnamdi Kanu would have succeeded in his call to arms struggle for the secession of Biafra, if not for his "thuggery", lack of discipline, careless utterances and unchecked rage. Love Nnamdi Kanu or loathe him. You cannot ignore him. He is young, bold and brave. He took a path young politicians of Nigeria, feared or failed to walk on, in our nation’s political turbulence. He came and disturbed our nation's conscience. He was the proverbial gunpowder waiting to explode. Nnamdi exploded to national prominence with his call for a separate entity from Nigeria, threatening death and destruction to his once nation which in later years, he branded a “zoo”. Nnamdi was once a Nigerian patriot.  But for his “thuggery”, lack of discipline, careless utterances and unchecked rage, Nnamdi Kanu would have succeeded in his call to arms struggle for the secession of Biafra. Young Nigerians from  East, West, North, South, paid attention ...

Syria to consider granting Kurds greater autonomy

Once the military campaign of President Bashar al-Assad's government against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group operating in Syria is over, discussions can begin, he said. "[Syrian Kurds] want a form of autonomy within the framework of the borders of the state," Muaellem said on Tuesday, according to SANA, the Syrian state news agency. "This is negotiable and can be the subject of dialogue." Kurdish-led authorities held an election on Friday in northern Syria, marking the beginning of a three-stage process to set up new systems of governance in order to strengthen the...

Twitter to test 280-character tweets, busting old limit

CBC: World News 8 hours ago The days of Twitter limiting messages to 140 characters — a signature of the social network since its launch in 2006 — may be numbered. Twitter said on Tuesday that it would begin a test with a random sample of users allowing them to send tweets that are as long as 280 characters, double the existing cap, in most languages around the world. The San Francisco-based company has stood by its short messages as a defining characteristic — like chirps from a bird, which is the company logo — even as users found ways around the limit, such as posting photos of text. In a blog post on Tuesday, Twitter said its emphasis on brevity would never change but that the company wondered whether people could express themselves easily enough on the service, and wondered whether that was hurting its popularity. ...

Lee came to the United States in December under the visa waiver program and requested asylum, which was granted in March by Immigration Judge Samuel Cole. Cole described Yee as a "young political dissident," saying "his prosecution, detention and general maltreatment at the hands of Singapore authorities constitute persecution on account of Yee's political opinions." The Department of Homeland Security, which opposed his asylum application, appealed the judge's decision, however the Board of Immigration Appeals sa...

The Long History of North Korea's Declarations of War

The Atlantic: International News 2 hours ago When Ri Yong Ho, the foreign minister of North Korea, called U.S. President Donald Trump’s fiery speech at the United Nations a “declaration of war” on Monday morning, the phrase ricocheted across Twitter. Within roughly an hour, Politico, The Independent, The New York Times, Business Insider, and even Gizmodo featured Ri’s words in their headline. Bloomberg Markets tweeted the quote, followed by the terse sentence “stocks dropped,” and a menacing photo of what looked like a precipitous decline in the S&P 500 (but which was really just a roughly 0.4 percent fall). As it turns out, though, North Korean officials refer to actions as a declarations of war roughly as often as Trump claims that CNN is fake news. In July 2016, the United States sanctioned Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, and 10 other officials for human rights abuses. North Korea’s official news agency called the sanctions a ...

USA Today: World Top Stories 27 minutes ago North Korea's foreign minister said Monday that President Trump has declared war on the reclusive nation and that Pyongyang has the right to shoot down U.S. military aircraft.
