ISIS warns of World Cup attacks in posters showing Lionel Messi being executed on the pitch

ISIS thugs have warned of World Cup attacks in posters depicting the execution of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona forward is shown in an orange jumpsuit, kneeling before a masked jihadist near the centre circle of a packed stadium in Russia.

In the foreground, a bearded extremist can be seen with a suicide bomb connected to a trigger button. A caption urges fanatics to be ‘ready and steady for the season of hunting is soon’.

Separate propaganda images show a militant examining a screen showing World Cup venues – dubbed ‘targets’ for lone-wolf jihadists.

A third shows a militant carrying a bomb on to a football field through flames while a final poster simply says ‘kill them all’.

The mocked-up image are the latest in a near constant stream of ISIS threats against the World Cup in recent weeks.

In May, fanatics threatened to behead both Messi and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo in sickening posters.

The two superstars were shown in a mocked-up image pinned down on the pitch in a packed stadium with knife-wielding jihadists hacking at their necks.

Above the picture, released on Telegram by a pro-ISIS group, a chilling caption warned ‘the ground will be filled with your blood’.

A second poster showed a militant carrying what appears to be an explosive device in to a stadium. It comes with the message: ‘Fifa World Cup Russia 2018 – victory will be ours’.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is being played across 11 cities in Russia until July 15, when the final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

The US has warned Syrian rebels in the south-west of the country they should not expect military support to help them resist a major government offensive. The message from Washington comes as Russian jets struck an opposition-held town on Sunday in the first air cover provided by Moscow to an expanding Syrian army offensive in the strategic area bordering Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The US message sent to heads of the Free Syrian Army said Washington wanted to make clear that “you should not base your decisions on the assumption or expectation of a military intervention by us”. The Syrian army began ramping up its assault last week in order to recapture the area. Washington had warned the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, and his Russian allies that violations of a “de-escalation” zone agreed by the US and Russia last year would have “serious repercussions” and pledged “firm and appropriate measures”.
