Nigeria's ambassador to South Africa, Danjuma Sheni, said Nigeria was happy to have received South African support in the fight against Boko Haram.
Sheni made the revelation at a media briefing of the third session of the South Africa-Nigeria Defence Committee meeting in Cape Town on Wednesday, September 26.
According to South Africa's influential newspaper, Times Live, Sheni disclosed that South Africa had helped Nigeria with military hardware to cushion the effects of terrorism.
Delegates from the two countries' armed forces and commercial military stakeholders are said to be meeting this week to discuss military co-operation.
It was agreed that South Africa would help Nigeria to set up its own military industrial complex.
Secretary for Defence Sam Gulube, who led the South African delegation, said both countries struggled with their defence budgets and procurement programmes.
Meanwhile, rights group, Amnesty International (AI), has said that it is investigating the clash between the Nigerian army and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in Umuahia, Abia state.
In a statement sent to journalists on Friday, September 15, the director of the organisation, Osai Ojigho expressed concerns over the conduct of the Nigerian military.
“We are investigating all allegations of human rights violations and urge the authorities to investigate and quickly bring those suspected of unlawful killings and other serious violations to justice,” the group said.
